At around 12.30pm, Essential Energy was made aware of a "power supply issue" across the CBD and small parts of West Bathurst before power was finally restored around 2.30pm.
In that time, the power outage caused frustration for people and businesses across the city, including motorists requiring the use of traffic lights at the intersection on Durham and Stewart Street.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
Police were required to guide traffic until the power was restored to the traffic lights.
Bathurst RSL marketing manager Janneke van der Sterren said the club had to turn back customers wishing to enter until power was returned.
"We're not allowed to let people in that weren't already signed in because of the sign-in rules," she explained.
"People were waiting and hanging around ... for the power to come back on."
A comment on the Western Advocate page indicated that Annie's Ice Cream Parlour had a slight problem when the power first faltered.
"Our power tripped the safety switch and the ice cream machines went off but luckily they went on and we weren't out of power," the comment said.
Not all businesses were as lucky, however, with the power outage forcing Dogwood to shut for trade on Wednesday night.
"With the power dropping in and out today due to a number of outages across the CBD, it's really thrown a spanner in the works during our prep," a social media post on Dogwood's Facebook page said.
"As a result we've decided to close for tonight but we'll be back open as normal tomorrow."
