The Vixens found four of their goals before the half hour mark had ticked over, essentially sealing the result barring a miracle Macquarie turnaround.
Once the shock of CSU's goal barrage had subsided Macquarie FC lifted their game in attack, eventually leading to a goal shortly after the Vixens' fifth.
However, CSU had done more than enough to keep themselves within three points of competition front runners Abercrombie FC, who stayed on top after a 2-1 win over Panorama FC.
"I'm very happy. We've had three good wins in three weeks which has helped take us up the ladder," CSU coach Brice Dwyer said.
"We've definitely come back firing. The girls have really gelled now that we know where everyone plays and all our positions are sorted.
"I think our passing game in the first half was great. We really worked the ball well through them."
Jasmine Christie-Johnson almost got the scoring underway in the fourth minute when her strike from distance thundered into the crossbar, but the Vixens would only have to wait three more minutes to make a breakthrough.
Tayla Lloyd was left open on a corner to put home the opening goal and Christie-Johnson picked up an assist moments later when her cross met the head of Phoebe Reynolds.
Following a few more excursions near the Macquarie goal CSU were able to make it 3-0 when Annabel Meadley got plenty of power behind a strike from the top right of the penalty area in the 21st minute.
On the half hour mark the margin became four on the back of Lloyd's hit into the top left corner.
Macqaurie found their groove in the lead up to half-time as their one-two passes started to connect and they made several promising attacks into the CSU goal.
CSU clawed back momentum at the start of the new half, going close to scoring eight minutes into the term when Christie-Johnson's close range shot forced a nice stop from Anna Coombes.
However, Brianna Menken still put CSU five ahead on their next attack down the field.
Claire Sheehan gave Macquarie a much deserved goal in the 65th minute after she made a run behind the defensive line.
Both sides struggled to make headway as rain brought the game to a crawl.
