The $2 million boardwalk, funded by Bathurst Regional Council and the NSW Government, stretches from Griffins Bend to Forrest Elbow and features a viewing platform at the top of the Mount.

The boardwalk was officially opened last month, though the final section to Forrest Elbow is not yet finished.

"We have had several visitors already asking about the boardwalk and a number who said they have undertaken the walk," Mr Cove said of those who are coming through the doors of the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre.

"We are not yet promoting it widely as a new experience for visitors or featuring in marketing campaigns as the experience development work is still underway, though we are certainly recommending it to visitors to the centre."

Mr Cove said the boardwalk, two years in the making, would add to the Mount Panorama experience.

"Mount Panorama/Wahluu is already iconic, and a massive drawcard for Bathurst," he said.

"The boardwalk and viewing platform offer another compelling reason to make the visit and offer a safe and scenic way to take in the genuinely panoramic views from the top of the circuit.

"In addition, the new infrastructure offers us the chance to use interpretation (a combination of signage, written and digital options, still in development) to tell the many stories of Mount Panorama/Wahluu as well as of the wider Bathurst region and increase the value of Mount Panorama as a tourist attraction outside of race periods."

He said it would likely bring visitors to the Mount who don't necessarily have an interest in motorsport.

"The boardwalk experience can be enhanced and used to tell a number of stories and council is currently working on developing these," he said.

"They will include interpretation of Wiradyuri heritage, the geological and geomorphological natural history of the Bathurst region, European settlement and of the history of motor racing.

"Through this experience development we will be aiming to attract visitors of many interests, not just racing enthusiasts."
