It was the first top grade premiership Bulldogs had won in 20 years and a proud moment in the history of the Bathurst club.
That match - which saw John Lloyd-Green, Sandy Robinson, Blair Webb and Allistair Robinson score tries for the Bulldogs - is just one of the classic grand finals which has been witnessed in Central West Rugby Union over the years.
Keen historian Sharon Cross has collated newspaper articles from all the top grade Central West Rugby Union grand finals since 1948 and presented them in a book which will no doubt revive many memories for those involved with the competition.
That 1948 grand final saw Orange Wests defeat Orange Emus 19-9. The first Bathurst appearance in a grand final came in 1954 when the Molong Magpies managed an 8-0 win over the Bathurst All Stars.
However, it took until 1977 for a Bathurst derby in the decider. Halfback Webb, second-rower Hedberg, lock Paddy Daley, fullback Mick Bullock plus the Robinsons shone for the victors that day.
For the beaten Mitchell side the likes of Ross Reynolds, Wayne Mackey and Ross Higgins impressed.
The book is available for purchase at Bathurst Bulldogs' home games and at Intersport Bathurst. It comes with a free stubby holder.
