The existing maintenance depot is approximately 217.4 square metres and is used by council's recreation works team to store products and equipment.
Council will demolish the depot and replace it with one more than twice the size.
The new maintenance depot will include a vehicle store room. caged store room, kitchen, meals room and unisex bathrooms on the ground floor, while a mezzanine floor will be used for storage purposes.
In addition to this, council will build a wash bay for vehicles and machinery adjacent to the depot and install a 10-kilowatt solar panel system on the roof of the depot.
Director of Engineering, Darren Sturgiss, explained the need to replace the existing facility.
"The current shed has reached the end of its life and we need to review that building to make sure that we've got appropriate facilities," he said.
While the development has been supported, some changes could be made once council receives further advice from Essential Energy.
The location proposed is in close proximity to overhead powerlines, and Essential Energy has previously advised the depot would need to be no closer than 7.5 metres from the centre of any powerline.
The depot will either need to be reduced in size or relocated slightly.
Following negotiation, the development application will be determined under delegated authority.
