With Chifley Dam expected to be full within days, Bathurst Regional Council has agreed that it is time to relax water restrictions.
Level four (extreme) restrictions, which were imposed in mid October 2019, will be replaced by level three (high) restrictions.
The change means that the odds and evens method of watering lawns and gardens will come back into effect, allowing people to water before 10am or after 4pm for up to 60 minutes per day.
People who live in even numbered houses can water on even numbered dates, and those in odd numbered houses can water on odd numbered dates. No watering is permitted on the 31st of any month.
Trigger nozzle hoses or irrigation systems are permitted to be used.
Level three restrictions also permit people to wash their cars at home with a bucket or a trigger nozzle, on the lawn.
People can also top up swimming pools, however this is limited to 15 minutes per day, before 10am or after 4pm.
Pool covers need to be in place and be managed according to the supplier or pool expert recommendations.
Mayor Bobby Bourke is pleased Bathurst is now in a position where restrictions can be relaxed.
"This is a big weight off council's shoulders. Myself, other councillors and staff have probably worked overtime with the state government in trying to not be in this same state next year, and I can nearly guarantee that we won't be.
"We've got enough water now to get through this next summer without going higher [with restrictions] than what we are, and we've still got three or four months of rain to come yet before we get into the hot period, so things are looking a lot better."
Although the dam is nearly full, council believes it's best to not lift water restrictions entirely.
"We're not rushing into this," Cr Bourke said.
"I've spoken to most of the councillors personally, they're all of the same opinion to take it easy."
