Len Absalom's Fabregas greyhound had been struggling to get himself in the mix ever since a nasty fall at Temora in January, so success in the Ladbrokes Cash In Pathways (307 metres) meant a lot to his Cowra trainer.
The race conditions were ideal for the veteran runner who put his experience to great use against his rivals over the sprint distance.
Beats Maneuva ($5) got away from the field quickly along with Drunken Phoenix ($9.50, Geoff Townsend) but Absalom's runner didn't take long get several lengths on the rest of the field.
Race favourite Crystal Shacoby ($3.60, Terrence Northey) got a slow start from the inside box and was forced to fight her way along the rail to get back into the race.
She put in a strong effort to get herself to the head of the chasing pack but she'd given Beats Maneuva far too great of a head start.
Beats Maneuva continued to stretch his margin and won by nine lengths.
Absalom said it was nice to see hard work pay off with the Bathurst victory.
"He has gone faster at this track before but he had a bad fall at Temora and it's been such a big job to get him to come back. This race was an easy one for him to come back with," he said.
"I don't think I'll be starting any of my dogs out of the 300m there again. The 440m there is a good run, but unless you've got a fast starter you're going to get smashed up at that 330m."
