A goal for Eglinton's Tayla Slattery was cancelled out by Macquarie's Claire Sheehan before the half-time whistle, setting the stage for an exciting second half.
The girls in yellow and blue didn't panic when Macquarie managed to level the scores and they were able to take the lead shortly after the resumption of play through Missy Cosgrove.
It wasn't a perfect performance in the eyes of Eglinton FC coach Ian Crook but he believes his side are coping well in the face of injury concerns.
"It was a really good game played in a good spirit, but we're certainly not playing at our best," he said.
"We've still got a few players out injured and we've had quite a number of second graders filling in, but they're holding their own and doing a good job.
"That game was definitely important in the run towards semis. Macquarie are the team sitting in fifth behind us so for us to get the points creates a six-point turnaround."
Macquarie FC coach Andrew Speed said it wasn't a result for his squad to feel too let down about, and he believes it shows how well his side are coming along in their 2020 campaign.
"We had our opportunities to score more goals but their keeper was very good, as always. It was a really close game the whole way through," he said.
"The girls went well. They never gave up. We're happy with how they're going for a very young team, and they're holding their own against the older sides.
"We're still very confident that we can make finals."
