My Mate Jim ($1.50 favourite, Victor Sultana) and Zipping Jehtro ($3.50, Rob Tyler) had the rest of the field chasing their dust as they group away from the pack midway through the Zipping Garth @ Stud Maiden (307 metres).
Sultana's favourite had to play the catch up game but he was up to the task, racing around the outside to edge out Zipping Jethro by a head.
My Mate Jim is one of the first runners to reach the racetrack from the Fabregas x Dive Bomber litter, and the nature of his comeback win at Bathurst will make the rest of his siblings worth following too.
"His brother won yesterday at Richmond and he's now won today," Darren Sultana, son of the trainer, said.
"The owner bought them off one of his mates, broke them in and here they are now. They're bred to go over the 500m but whether they end up doing that or not is another question."
My Mate Jim and Zipping Jethro were actually two of the slowest starters in Monday's event and they had to fight hard to get themselves to the front.
Tijuana City was the clear leader from the jump and at one stage almost got out to a two length lead.
Arrogant Spike loomed up outside to mount a challenge for the lead but he was bumped away from that contest by the surging My Mate Jim and Zipping Garth.
The duo brushed aside Tijuana City and quickly put distance between themselves and the rest of the field on the bend for home.
Zipping Garth got across to the rail and My Mate Jim was forced to go the long way around if he wanted a win on debut, and he just got there in 18.03 seconds.
Tijuana City ($34, Paul Wasson) battled away to hold onto third place a further nine lengths off the pace.
