THE rivalry between Bathurst and Orange cricketers is already strong but it looks like it's going to get a whole lot bigger this summer.

Two Bathurst District Cricket Association clubs are amongst four who have flagged their interest in joining the Orange District Cricket Association-run Royal Hotel Cup.
Cowra and Molong have again thrown their hats in the ring after a five-year hiatus from the Twenty20 title race, while Bathurst's City Colts and Rugby Union are also keen to have a run at the cup this summer.
Colts and Rugby are especially keen to join in given the Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket Association season format currently does not include T20 fixtures.
bathurst teams have enjoyed success in the competition in recent seasons - St Pat's Old Boys won the title two summers ago while the 2017-18 title was taken out by Centennials Bulls.
ODCA president Mark Frecklington says the addition of that new quartet isn't set in stone, with the preferred option to run a competition with 12 sides, but the added interest of more teams ahead of the looming summer is a boon for the committee.
A decision will be made at the ODCA's annual general meeting on Monday, September 21.
If all four are given the green light to join Western Zone's premier Twenty20 competition, it'll take the field out to 13, with last year's champions Cavaliers, Kinross, Bathurst City, Orange City, CYMS, Lithgow, Centennial Bulls, Centrals and St Pat's Old Boys all expected to field sides again this summer.
However, Frecklington said it's more than likely just the three will be admitted into the competition.
He said added interest in the Royal Hotel Cup was always welcome, with the 2019-20 title race, won by Cavs in a thriller over St Pat's Old Boys under lights at Wade Park, regarded one of the best Twenty20 competitions in country cricket, not just Western Zone.
"It just adds a bit more variety" Frecklington said looking at the inclusion of more teams in the Royal Hotel Cup.
The variety will also improve the standard of cricket, which is important for Mitchell Cricket Council officials keen on improving the stocks of the Central West Wranglers - the council's Regional Bash outfit that's won through to play at the Sydney Cricket Ground finals twice in the last two seasons.
"We've got four new teams who have been invited but we'll probably take on three ... just so we don't end up with 13 teams," Frecklington added.
"Next Monday are our closing nominations and we should know a bit more about it after that but everyone seems on board for three more teams to join."
