HISTORIAN and author Cassandra Pybus will join Bathurst Library for an online discussion about her 2020 book, Truganini, which describes the life of the significant Indigenous historical figure. The inaugural Bathurst Fun Fair, featuring rides from Sydney, local market stalls, food vans and showbags, will be held again this weekend, September 19 and 20, at Bathurst Showground. Entry will be via a four-hour session and numbers will be capped at 400 to stay within the four square metre per person rules. There will be temperature checks and a contact register for all guests. Entry sessions are 10am to 2pm and 3pm to 7pm each day. Entry is $5 and then you can purchase rides as you go, or there is an unlimited ride pass for $30.
The Archibald Prize 2019 exhibition, featuring notable Australians including Annabel Crabb, Benjamin Law, Leigh Sales, Dylan Alcott, Greg Inglis and Megan Washington, continues at Bathurst Regional Art Gallery. When visiting, don't forget to vote for the ANZ People's Choice Award for your chance to win $500 courtesy of ANZ. Voting will close at 5pm this Friday, September 18 and the winner will be announced on Saturday, October 3.
University of NSW Professor of History Grace Karskens, multi-award winning author of The Colony, will speak about her new book, People Of The River, during an online event on Tuesday, September 22 hosted by the Bathurst Writers' and Readers' Festival, Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre and BooksPlus. People Of The River is about Dyarubbin, the Hawkesbury-Nepean River, where the two early Australias - ancient and modern - collided. Ms Karskens will be in-conversation with Jen Barry from BooksPlus from 6.30pm. Bookings are essential and available online at BMEC, tickets.bmec.com.au.
The Spring Open Garden at Mayfield Garden is coming up. It will be held from September 26 to October 25. See 65 hectares, including the Mayfield Maze and The Hawkins Family Garden, and take a rowboat out on the lake.
