Ten-year-old Eden Kauter, who has only ever had trims to this point, will have 16 inches (or 40 centimetres) chopped off her long locks next month in support of a good cause.
That cause is the Hair with Heart program through Variety - the Children's Charity, in which donated hair is made into wigs for those who have a medical condition such as alopecia.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Variety also uses the money raised by those donating their hair to "provide practical equipment, programs and experiences to help Aussie kids overcome obstacles they face and live life to the fullest".
"I feel like I'm so lucky to have beautiful long hair, but a little kid deserves that choice to have long hair as well," Eden said.
"I watched videos of little girls getting wigs in little boxes sent to their house and they were just filled with joy and I want to try to do that as well."
Eden will have her hair cut on October 14 at Ravensworth Hair Studio, owned by Brooke Moore.
Her original fundraising goal was $500, but she's gone well beyond that and has now raised almost $1200.
"My family has been really supportive and so have my friends," Eden said.
"They are saying you are making the right choice, you are going to have so much fun, you're going to make some little girl's day."
After the big day, Eden's hair will be around shoulder length.
And is she nervous?
"I'm a little bit nervous, but mostly happy," she said.
