It's one of the stories told in the first episode of an extremely unfiltered new weekly podcast by Grant and Chezzi Denyer called It's All True?.
The Denyers, who met on breakfast program Sunrise when Grant was the weatherman and Bathurst's Chezzi was his producer, are a well-known local couple.
They and their two daughters - with a third child on the way - live on a farm on the outskirts of Bathurst.
The Denyers say they decided to make It's All True? because their relationship is sometimes fodder for stories in the media and "more often than not none of that is true", according to Grant.
"This could be a platform for us to level with you and tell you what the hell is true and what isn't true," he says.
In the first episode of the podcast, they discuss working together on Sunrise and not liking each other very much, but feeling an undeniable spark when their hands brushed.
Grant said he realised he could not "live without this woman; I need her in my life forever".
It was problematic, though, because Grant was in a relationship at the time and Chezzi was married.
Chezzi later ended up moving back to Bathurst to sell cars and that, Grant says, is "when I knew I really loved you".
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Because I sold Holdens?" Chezzi asks him on the podcast.
"Yeah. In Bathurst. Home of my favourite racetrack ever in the world," Grant says. "I thought, I can't let her go. She's the one."
The two also discuss Grant's excitement when he found out Chezzi was a three-time Queen of the Mount when she was younger.
Grant, who has competed at Mount Panorama, has been named as host of Network 10's coverage of this year's Bathurst 1000.
It's All True? is available through Spotify, Deezer and Whooshkaa.
