In early September, the NSW Government reversed its decision to ban school formals in 2020, allowing them to take place as long as they follow social distancing rules.
While Bathurst High principal Ken Barwick is unsure what his school's formal will look like this year, he said he's just happy the graduating year will get one.

"We're really, really happy our kids will be getting a formal," he said.
"The department is doing a really good job looking at it day-by-day, based on health advice, and they will be very quick to come to us if there are changes or adjustments.
"The Bathurst High formal was originally set down for Friday, November 13, two days after the HSC. At this point in time, it's still set for that date but the venue is yet to be decided and that'll all be based on physical distancing rules and who can and cannot attend."
Mr Barwick said the school is struggling to find a venue within the Bathurst region that could accommodate 115 students, a plus one for each and up to 15 staff with the current coronavirus restrictions.
He said holding the school formal at the school is an option that is being looked at.
"We're struggling for a venue, so what's likely in this point of time is do something magical and special on our school site," he explained.
"The students would get dropped at the circular drive, get some official photos in their formal gear in front of the old magical Bathurst High building and then walk to the otherside to get a photo overlooking the city.
"There'll be some great photo opportunities around the school site, where they've attended for six years with friends in their year groups. Then they go into our school hall and be provided a normal formal, where they're presented on red carpet and have a sit down meal with just Year 12 and a few staff.
"That presentation, we'd look to present that live, so parents and grandparents can still play part in the process."
Many high schools including Kelso High, St Stanislaus' College, Skillset and Carenne are also yet to announce their Year 12 formal plans.
MacKillop College is planning to hold its formal on November 14 at Bathurst Goldfields, while Scots All Saints College will host its formal at the same location on November 27.
"Senior staff are working closely with our Year 12 students to ensure we celebrate the occasion in style," Head of Scots Campus/Director of Senior School, Tracey Leaf, said.
