USS was devised in 2018 as a way to address the issue of homelessness in Bathurst by providing emergency overnight accommodation.
Due to COVID-19, the shelter was unable to open for 2020, but the organisers were able to at least offer meals through a café in the Bathurst Uniting Church hall.
The café was made possible thanks to the help of 25 community volunteers and 13 paramedics students from Charles Sturt University.
OTHER COMMUNITY NEWS:
"We are very thankful for the wonderful support from the Bathurst community, who have continued to care despite the pandemic," the USS coordinating committee said.
The café has been utilised by more than 40 guests since it opened at the end of May, who enjoyed hot meals that were provided by Nikki's Cafe.
"Apart from the hot meals and social interaction, guests have been provided with sleeping bags, bedding and winter clothing," the committee said.
The café will serve its final meals on Sunday, November 1.
Until then it will be open from 12pm to 2pm, Thursday to Sunday each week.
The committee said that any future plans for the shelter will be dependent on COVID restrictions.
