Utilizing the hashtag '#BBQ4Bathurst1000', Cr Bourke is encouraging everyone to take a photo of their own barbecue scene to showcase their enjoyment of the Great Race while enjoying some local produce.
"It will be a very different Bathurst 1000 this year, but let's celebrate at home together," he said.
"The community is invited to get into the 'race day' spirit by inviting close friends and relatives around, donning some Ford or Holden gear and firing up the barbie."
"It's going to be a fantastic race, it's the Supercars grand final and with 20 visitors, I encourage people to get their televisions set up in the backyard, have their barbies ready to go and enjoy the day."
Local butchers participating in the cause thus far include Mountain Meats, Farmgate Meats on Keppel, Farmgate Fresh Cut Meats, South Bathurst Butchers and Steve's Quality Meats.
Cr Bourke said those who purchase a meat pack from the aforementioned local businesses will go into the draw to win a limited edition Bathurst 1000 poster.
"Our local butchers cater for hundreds of thousands of people during a normal race week and with camping banned this year, they're certainly going to feel the strain," he said.
"Wherever you live in Bathurst, get on board and back your local butcher to assist in your Great Race barbecue."
Cr Bourke said Bathurst Regional Council is continuing to determine other methods of support for local businesses during race week.
