With 25 Bathurst 1000 starts under his belt and six wins, Mark Skaife knows just how brutal a rainy race can be.
On Fox Sports' Supercars coverage on Saturday, he warned of what a bit of rain will do to the strategies up and down pit lane after three days of dry running.
"It does change everything," he said.
"The great thing is that at this place, in the dry, it's wild enough without a bit of water.
"The place is so difficult to get the car right in the dry, but if you've got a really good dry car and you've got the low downforce-style setup, if you've got really good straight-line speed, and good fuel economy, it's totally the wrong thing to have if it gets wet because you want the maximum amount of downforce, the maximum amount of grip.
"So those two car setups, they couldn't get any further apart."
At one point in recent days, up to 15 millimetres was forecast to fall on Sunday, however the maximum rainfall is now much closer to 5mm.
The Bureau of Meteorology says its most likely to rain between 11am and 2pm, when there's a 70 per cent chance.
The Great Race starts at 11am.
While the teams and drivers will be wanting the rain to hold off, it's a different story for fans watching the race.
Councillor Warren Aubin will certainly be hoping for rain.
"You don't want it raining all day because that gets a little boring, but if you can get the odd shower come through, it always throws the cat amongst the pigeons," he said.
"You've got to go to change to wets, or are you going to stick it out and try to get through on slicks? When do you go and change? That's when all your strategies are thrown out the window."
