Instead Mother Nature stepped in as the rain halted play in what the captains believed was going to be the round of the century.
Still, each captain had a view on what the outcome could have been, so let's have a look at what they had to say:
Team Wham, John 'slugger' Bullock
"You could say we are the Melbourne Storm of tennis in this competition. It's going to take a really committed and focused team to beat our side," Bullock said.
"I just cannot see this happening, as we have too much depth and experience, which the other sides don't have.
"The Eagles, who we were going to play on Saturday, were the underdogs against my side as we won against them 10 sets to six last time we met. It would have been a huge upset if they would have won."
Team The Eagles, Andrew Howarth
"They call slugger Bullock's team the invincibles, but my side were ready to bring them down. I know they're leading the competition, but they are beatable," he said.
"I believe my side would have turned the tables on them and given his trump card a trumping."
Team Cold Chisel, Allyson 'iron lady' Schumacher
"We were up against Team Warumpi a side we have, in the past, had very close matches against," she said.
"On our day we could have brought home the bacon, but who knows against this side as they can prove to be troublesome in their matches."
Team Warumpi, Judy Smith
"My side were looking forward to this clash as we have had some keen tussles in the past. Don't write us off yet, we will be knocking on the door come finals time," she said.
Club selector Graeme Stapleton believes there is a clear choice as to which captain will steer their side to grand final glory in this year's spring competition - he is 98 percent certain it will be Bullock.
"Old slugger will have his trump card ready for whatever crosses his path. His record as captain is quite remarkable and still holds the record as the most capped captain to win the most grand finals in the club's history," he said.
Good hitting.
