Burger Urge was born in Brisbane in 2007 and has since grown to more than 25 restaurants in Queensland, NSW (including Dubbo), Victoria and the Northern Territory.
A development application lodged with Bathurst Regional Council shows the company has planned a $400,000 refurbishment of 59 William Street (formerly Bobbie McGee's) that would offer dine-in and takeaway options.
Floor plans lodged with the DA on Monday show low banquette seating as well as booths and tables and chairs inside the restaurant, plus food preparation areas at the rear of the premises.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
There are no plans to change the front facade of the premises and a Statement of Environment Effects submitted with the DA indicates opening hours would be 11am-8pm.
Burger Urge is a gourmet burger chain showcasing "premium local ingredients [and] delicious chef-crafted recipes" with a menu including angus beef burgers, grilled and fried chicken burgers, plant-based burgers, and milkshakes and fries.
Existing Burger Urge outlets also sell alcoholic drinks including local and craft beers, cider, wine, cocktails and spirits.
A cheeky blurb on the company's website seeks to set it apart from other burger joints.
"Every Tom, Dick and Harry has a burger shop these days, but you can count on one hand those that are actually good," the website says.
"Most have style, few have substance, and some even underpay their workers. Oopsie!"
Burger Urge is just the latest in a growing list of national and international food brands showing an interest in the Bathurst region.
Popular American chain Taco Bell has been given approval to open an outlet on the corner of Stewart and Howick streets while Portuguese-themed chicken burger chain Oporto has shown interest in the new Gateway development on the eastern approach to Bathurst.
And Village Bakehouse, which started as a family business in Dubbo in 1918, has lodged a development application to demolish the vacant former car salesroom at 113 Durham Street and the adjacent home at 105 Durham Street to set up shop in Bathurst.
