IT is very pleasing to see that Bathurst Regional Council and Aboriginal groups are set to propose the renaming of the Macquarie River to Macquarie-Wambool (Western Advocate, November 13).

Mayor Bobby Bourke has stated that council has been working for months with the Bathurst Local Aboriginal Land Council and the Wiradyuri Elders to develop the application.
It is a great pity that the council did not work with both of these Aboriginal groups when it made the dreadful decision to allow part of McPhillamy Park to be taken over by the Bathurst Kart Club.
