The orchard, which has 18 different varieties of cherries, is run by George and Marietta Khoury.

They are ready to welcome locals and visitors out to their property to pick their own or select pre-picked cherries from the shed.

Cherry-picking is done by appointment only, with locals encouraged to come out on weekdays.

Mrs Khoury said people have always loved picking their own fruit.

"We've been doing this since 1993. We started off with a small group in a mini bus and that has escalated into this being the only place we sell our cherries," she said.

It's not just an opportunity to get some fresh fruit, but also an activity that families can do together.

Locals tend to just buy what they need, as they can come out to Hillview at any time, but visitors who have travelled often buy in bulk, not only for themselves, but their family and friends.

Their visit not only benefits the cherry farm, but also other businesses in Bathurst.

"It does bring a lot of people into the town and over the years a lot of eateries have profited from it as well, because while they are here to pick cherries they have a day out in the town and they do buy lunches and visit certain places that might be of interest," Mrs Khoury said.

Hillview is being COVID-safe by taking temperatures, requiring social distance and asking people to wear masks in busy areas.
