More than 17,500 students at 290 schools across regional NSW took part in the competition which tested students' numeracy and problem-solving skills without calculator, ruler or other maths instruments.

Competition awards were presented on a district basis with Patrick Wells from Perthville Public School taking the Year 6 Bathurst District Award while Charlie Croaker from Scots All Saints College won the Year 5 District Award.

Newcastle Permanent's Bathurst branch lending manager Nathan Shaw recently presented the winners with a special award and prize account to acknowledge their achievements.

"I'm very proud to congratulate the bright young people who have shown themselves to be passionate about maths," he said.

Meanwhile, it has been a productive month for Charlie who also received a Distinction in the ICAS NSW Mathematics Competition and second place at Scots All Saints College in the Stage 3 section of the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematic Olympiad.

Head of All Saints campus Chris Jackman said Charlie's results were a "fitting reflection of his achievements and ability in mathematics".

"We strive for academic excellence in all subjects at Scots All Saints College and have a number of programs in place that support the students in achieving to their potential," Mr Jackman said.
