Not since the Bathurst City Centre development will we have seen a single project have such an impact on the look of the centre of town.
Bathurst RSL confirmed on Thursday that it is in negotiations with a development consortium to build the 9000 square metre medical facility and also in discussions with Bathurst Regional Council about plans for a car park to be built in the council-owned car park behind the club.
It will dramatically change both the look and feel of that area, and inject new life into that part of town.
Developers are bullish about how quickly they can bring the plans to life and hope it will be up and running in just a few years.
Before we get to that stage, though, there is an extensive public consultation process to negotiate and many will be keen to have some input into plans for such a prominent Bathurst site.
Traffic concerns will inevitably dominate those discussions and the developers will need a comprehensive traffic study and plan to explain how those challenges will be met.
And there will likely be heritage concerns to accommodate but this is a project where finding solutions must be prioritised over identifying issues.
We must find ways to accommodate such an enormous investment in the Bathurst CBD, and particularly one that seeks to boost a growing city's medical assets.
Council has been a vocal agitator for improved medical services for Bathurst and this development brings with it the prospect of more doctors and more specialists.
And if a multi-storey car park can help ease the CBD parking squeeze then what's not to like? Let's make it happen.
