The 32-year-old is fresh from lighting up Australia's six white-ball clashes, punishing the Indian attack to all parts of the SCG and Canberra's Manuka Oval.

Maxwell's rollicking cameos helped boost Australia to victory in the opening two ODIs, before almost pulling off an unlikely run-chase that would have given his country a series clean-sweep.

He did it again on Tuesday night, with his blazing 54 proving crucial in Australia ending the Twenty20 series with a consolation victory.

Maxwell played the last of seven Tests almost four years ago and he still appears to be pigeon-holed for shorter formats for Australia.

His short-term plan is to keep scoring runs and try to lead the Melbourne Stars to a breakthrough Big Bash League title.

"(It's) not even close to my mind at the moment. They announced the Test squad ages ago so my focus is 100 per cent on this Big Bash team," he said.

"It is nice to be hitting the ball well, feeling confident at the crease and having trust in what I do."

Maxwell knows how quickly form can come and go, with his hot-run for Australia coming just weeks after a less than impressive Indian Premier League campaign for Kings XI Punjab.

It has prompted former Indian master blaster Virender Sehwag to again launch an attack on Maxwell's work ethic.

Sehwag, a known critic of Maxwell, said on Wednesday the Victorian is more serious about "golf than cricket" and only comes to the IPL for the "free drinks".

Maxwell laughed off Sehwag's criticism, saying he played golf on Thursday morning before flying out with the Stars for their opening BBL game against the Brisbane Heat on Friday night.
