In Breath is being billed a poetic performance for people and their plants, and Ms Blackwood is encouraging audience members to bring their own plants along for the show.
"The show will be a combination of poetry and music touching on our connection to plants and the natural world," she said.
"Breath is a central theme throughout the performance, as plants and people share a symbiotic relationship through the production of oxygen and carbon dioxide respectively."
Ms Blackwood said the performance will contain a selection of messages related to the environment and how humans and nature coexist.
"I look forward to seeing everyone attend with their plants, as it will certainly add to the performance," she said.
"So many people are proud of their plants, and I hope the performance will evoke that childlike wonder of being around nature."
Ms Blackwood has been putting the performance together over the past year alongside director and mentor Dr Kate Smith.
"In Breath is a poetic exploration of what it means to be connected to plants and the environment," Dr Smith said.
"It's a funny, surprising, and deeply satisfying piece of creative work."
The performance will take place on Wiradyuri land at BMEC this Thursday and Friday from 7.30pm. Tickets cost $25 [$20 for concession and students] and are available from bmec.com.au.
