According to data from Bathurst Airport, the maximum temperature recorded last month was 36.9 degrees on December 1, with the next highest being 31.6 degrees on December 28.
It's almost unfathomable when compared with the previous December, where there were 22 days over 30 degrees and one particularly hot day, December 21, where the mercury rose to 40.9 degrees.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Bathurst Airport has figures dating back to 1991 and what was seen in regards to temperature in December 2019 exceeded all records.
It was the same case at Bathurst Agricultural Station, which has an even longer history.
"Officially, with records going back to 1901, December 2019 was the hottest December on record, with days averaging 32 degrees," Weatherzone meteorologist Craig McIntosh said.
Comparatively, December 2020 temperatures were just below the long-term average maximum and minimum temperatures for Bathurst.
Mr McIntosh said the difference between the two years comes mainly down to La Nina.
"We were still in drought [in 2019] so there was little to no soil moisture, stronger westerly winds which were dry, and the biggest change there has been was developing La Nina, so a lot more moisture over eastern Australia, which leads to more cloud coverage and less wind," he said.
However, La Nina also results in warmer than average minimums, meaning nights could be a little warmer than Bathurst residents are used to experiencing.
The outlook for the rest of summer in Bathurst is to be close to the long-term average temperatures.
Temperatures weren't the only thing to change in the 12-month period.
Data from the airport in 2019 states Bathurst received just six millimetres of rain across December.
Last month, the figure was significantly higher, with 74.8 millimetres recorded.
