Bathurst's University of the Third Age [U3A] staged its annual enrolment day earlier in the week to encourage people over 50 to sign up for a range of insightful activities.

The enrolment day, held at the Bathurst Senior Citizens Centre, gave new and existing U3A members a choice of 47 courses to choose from, including new courses such as yoga, walking and emerging economics in a post-pandemic era.
After running courses online for most of 2020, U3A president Irene Hancock hopes a careful approach to COVID-safe protocol will allow face-to-face classes to run comfortably.
"There's a lot of people over 50 who live alone and the U3A provides an opportunity to meet people and engage in a worthwhile activity," Ms Hancock said.
"Some of our members meet up for chess, others participate in archery, and there's a few who simply meet up to discuss current affairs."
Ms Hancock said the enrolment day attracted a positive turnout, and is looking forward to a productive year.
"We've had to reconsider the way we run certain courses as a result of COVID-19, but our facilitators and members are doing everything they can to make it work," she said.
