When fire crews arrived at the Culnane Place property just after 10pm Monday evening, they were faced with a rapidly spreading fire.
Duty Commander for Bathurst, Chris Andrews said Fire and Rescue NSW started receiving triple 000 calls at around 10pm with reports a house was alight in Culnane Place, with reports a person was possibly inside.
He said engines responded from both Bathurst and Kelso and were quickly onsite.
Commander Andrews said police, who arrived moments in front of fire crews were able to ascertain no-one was inside the building.
He said fire crews then began an aggressive fire attack on the property.
Commander Andrews said when fire crews arrived, fire was blowing out of the windows and spreading rapidly.
"There were magazines stacked throughout the premises, as well as under the house (which fuelled the fire).
IN NEWS AROUND BATHURST:
"Firefighters fought the fire aggressively to bring it under control, but it took about three hours to extinguish due to the quantity of papers and magazines in the house."
Commander Andrews said neighbouring houses were evacuated as a precautionary measure, and thankfully the fire did not spread beyond the building of origin.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Commander Andrews said it is believed the fire started underneath the house.
Duty officer with Chifley Police District, Inspector David Abercrombie said police who were already in the area undertaking patrols, arrived on the scene first.
"We were initially told someone was inside the premises and immediately made attempts to establish if there was someone in there."
Inspector Abercrombie said police spoke with neighbours at the scene and were able to establish quickly the person who lives at the property was away. He said at this stage it's unknown what caused the blaze.
"Crime scene officers attended on Tuesday morning and examined the scene, investigations are continuing. Anyone with any information is urged to contact police," he said.
