THE celebration after he helped CSU hoist the 2004 Blowes Cup is something that Simon Meiklejohn no doubt still fondly recalls, but now he's preparing for another celebration.

It's one which involves two former Wallabies in Joe Roff and Justin Harrison.
Former premiership winning halfback Meiklejohn is a member of CSU's past players association, a body which was formed to organise the club's 50th anniversary ball.
It was initially planned for 2020 before COVID-19 forced its cancellation, but come May 1 this year the Bumblebee Ball to commemorate 50 years of the 'Mitchell men' will be a huge evening.
"Having to wait a year to hold the celebrations has only made everyone more eager - we're expecting to sell out tickets - there will be past members coming from all corners of Australia," Meiklejohn said.
"It's pretty big for the club and the wider Bathurst community to have two Wallaby legends, Joe Roff and Justin Harrison, come to town. It'll definitely go a long way towards making this a memorable night for Mitchell rugby.
"There's no better bloke to host these former Wallabies than ex-Mitchell man, Tim Sheridan.
"An international journalist who's covered some of the biggest sporting events in the world - World Cups, Olympics, US masters - he's the perfect fit to MC the 50th year celebrations."
During his four seasons with CSU between 2003-06, Meiklejohn was a star in the number nine jersey.
He not only scored a try in the 2004 grand final which the university side won 30-13 over Orange Emus, but played for the Central West Blue Bulls and NSW Country under 21s.
He went on to captain Mosman and play for the Sydney Suburban outfit more than once, so no doubt will have some tales to share at the ball.
Roff, who was involved in the Wallabies' 2000 and 2001 Tri Nations victories and former star lock Harrison, who earned 34 Test caps, will also have some good stories to share with those who attend the ball.
But Meiklejohn points out that it is not just about celebrating CSU's history.
"As well as celebrating the 50-year milestone, we're hoping to raise some money for the club and community also. The sentiment is very much about celebrating our history yes, but also giving back," he said.
"The Mitchell Rugby Club holds a special place in many hearts, and it's great to see a lot of excitement about the event.
"The goal is to celebrate the 50-year history of the club, along with the many friendships and good times it's brought - not just for the men and women who have played, but the supporters and friends that have been part of the journey as well.
"We're hoping to see a strong representation of Mitchell men and women as well as friends and supporters from all eras - the 70s right through to today."
As for what Meiklejohn hopes to see on the field this season, it's no surprise he'd love to see more premierships and on-field heroics.
"As always, I'm backing the Mitchell men and women to have a cracking year. And hopefully this event will go a long way to achieving that," he said.
The ball will be held at the Bathurst Goldfields on Saturday, May 1, from 6pm
Dress is black tie and tickets include a two-course dinner, five-hour drinks package, live entertainment and transportation.
