Peter James Stanford Nugent, 42, of Barker Circuit in Kelso, appeared in person and unrepresented before magistrate Kevin Hockey in Bathurst Local Court.
Nugent was charged with being a never licensed person driving on the road after being stopped by police on the afternoon of November 28 last year.
IN OTHER NEWS AROUND BATHURST:
Nugent, representing himself, told the court he was panicked when he decided to drive.
He said his partner was on the ground, crying from period pain, when he decided to drive two kilometres to get her Panadol to be used as a painkiller.
He said that after he was stopped by police, he got out of the car and waited for a taxi.
Police facts handed to the court told how Nugent was stopped on View Street in Kelso for a random breath test.
When police asked for his driver's licence, he said he didn't have one anymore and shouldn't be driving, according to the police facts.
A breath test produced a negative result.
Nugent gave his name and date of birth and produced a Medicare card for police, who undertook checks on the police and Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) database.
The checks confirmed Nugent had held a NSW Class C driver's licence, but it had expired on November 20, 2009.
He was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice to attend Bathurst Local Court.
Mr Hockey convicted Nugent and fined him $300.
