Mitchell Conservatorium is putting out a call for members of the community looking to reinvigorate their interest in music through participation in a new ensemble. The Symphonic Winds Ensemble is open to any woodwind, brass or percussion player [AMEB grade two and up] and meets every Friday from 4pm to 5pm in MitCon's Orchard Room. READ ALSO: Holy Trinity Community Centre to host classical music gig on Saturday Ensemble co-ordinator Bethany Carter said the ensemble is open to all ages, and hopes to gradually build up numbers as the weeks progress. "We play a range of pieces across numerous genres, including jazz, musical theatre, classical and contemporary, with a mix of Australian and international composers," Ms Carter said. "It's an opportunity for musicians young and old to learn off each other to produce a vibrant, multilayered sound." READ ALSO: Andy Nelson to appear with full band at Inland Sea of Sound this Friday Ms Carter said the aim is to build up the ensemble to a point where it can regularly perform at community functions and competitions. "MitCon put on a number of regular community performances prior to COVID-19 so once they're able to resume on a larger scale, we hope to take part," she said. "We'd also like to get to the point where we're ready to compete at eisteddfods, as they provide vital opportunities to hone performance skills." The ensemble has rehearsed three times thus far, and Ms Carter said attendance has grown with each rehearsal.
