THE Bathurst 500 might be new this year, but winning a 250 kilometre sprint race in a Supercar at Mount Panorama is something that Macauley Jones can already lay claim to.

Before the 26-year-old graduated to the Supercars series three seasons ago, he raced in the Super2 category.
That series held a 250 kilometre race at Mount Panorama as part of their championship between 2014 and 2019.
The first three years under that format Paul Dumbrell clinched victory, but it was Jones who claimed the chequered flag in 2017.
So does the Brad Jones Racing driver think it will help now he faces a pair of 250km races to start the 2021 Supercars season?
"I suppose I haven't really thought about it I guess, but it definitely is handy having done it before," he said.
"We've sort of done this type of exact format really, that was a 41-lap race race but at least we know what we're going into and we've done the strategy for this style of racing in the past.
"It's definitely something I'm looking forward to doing again, it's going to be exciting to change it up and it's the last track we've been too as well, so it's good back-to-back information."
As Jones indicated, the 2020 season ended at Mount Panorama with the Bathurst 1000. He and Tim Blanchard placed 13th in that Great Race and since then he feels the team has "made some pretty good changes."
One of those changes is a new race engineer in Tom Wettenhall, the other is Jones' fitness.
"I got out in the go-kart in the off-season and was riding motor bikes and stuff, I was probably ready to go a couple of months ago to be honest," he said.
"I feel like my training has been going well, my fitness is probably the best it's ever been which is probably something I didn't even think was going to happen.
"Because it's only the one driver for this it feels like the anticipation isn't as high as what the 1000 is ... but you're still going to the same track and you're excited because it's the best track you go to."
