Kelso resident Marlena Welch achieved a hattrick in the growing competition, winning ahead of 84 other gardeners this year, which began eight years ago to raise funds for the cottage.
Keen gardeners raised $425 in entry fees and the rotary club kicked in a further $575 to see a competition-record amount go to towards helping cancer patients in the region.

"The competition has been running for eight years now, five of which have been open to the general public," club president Tony Pollard said.
"It's always very popular because funds raised go to such a worthy cause, but we were particularly pleased with the number of entries received.
"The donation made to Daffodil Cottage by the club was our largest in recent years and it shows how valuable this service is to the local community."
The competition has few rules, however, entrants are not allowed to pick the tomato until club nonagenarian charter member Alan Petersen certifies its authenticity and that of the vine on which it grew.
The first three place-getters in the tomato growing competition received a $1 scratchie for their efforts.
