REGARDING the articles on p1 and p6 in the Western Advocate on February 16 relating to developments in the go-kart "saga", I would like to put an argument in favour of moving the site to some other location.

Firstly, I feel there should have been a more exhaustive manner of seeking public opinion about the plan, as it seems to me that thousands of locals and others have been opposing it.
In this democratic country, I find it strange that a very small handful of persons do achieve what thousands oppose (whether or not in an administratively correct way).

I don't want to repeat other people's arguments, just one that relates to the indigenous citizens of Australia, especially the descendants of the nations who inhabited our area.
It has been mentioned that Wahluu (Mount Panorama) was a holy site for those people, and traditionally still is such for their descendants who maintain those connections with the past.
I imagine, comparatively, building a go-kart establishment on their "holy" land would be for them like building a pub immediately next to a Christian church.
Time and time again, especially recently, some of our politicians apologised to the traditional owners for various things.
Why not move the go-kart site somewhere else so that there will be no apologies needed in the future.
