Redbacks can still make the Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket finals series with one game in the regular season to go, though they'll not only need to overcome a rampant Rugby Union team but they'll also need Orange City to do them a favour against Cavaliers.
Those scenarios unfolding would put Redbacks one point ahead of Cavaliers for fourth place, in what would be a stunning last-minute finals push.
Bathurst City almost leaped past Cavaliers last week but were stopped just short of claiming an outright win over Centrals.
Redbacks' John Rudge said that win has still given the team lots of confidence for their last round clash with Rugby at Morse Park 1.
"I think ultimately everyone plays cricket to make finals, and we're no different. While it wasn't the best result we could have got last week it was still a great game and we're happy with the big win we got there," he said.
"I thought the boys did really well. It's hard to get an outright win these days but we were in with a chance and it came down to the last half hour of the day. We have to be pleased with that performance."
Rudge said he and his team will relish the challenge of taking on the competition's most in-form team.
"We're really looking forward to it," he said.
"We're not shaken by a challenge, and when tough teams are put in front of us we're ready to take it to them. Rugby have three to four personnel who we're focusing on, but it's those next few guys who can be dangerous as well."
Redbacks will be keeping one eye on the Orange City-Cavs clash, which will be taking place over at Bloomfield Oval.
In other last round games Centennials Bulls and CYMS play off for a potential sixth place on the ladder at the Sportsground, St Pat's Old Boys fight for a possible minor premiership against Centrals at Riawena Oval, while Kinross hosts City Colts.
Pat's will take top spot on the ladder should they win their game with Centrals and Cavaliers take out their game against current leaders Orange City.
