Celebrated Australian musician John Stephan will be at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre this Saturday to perform a salute to the iconic singer-songwriter.
Stephan said the gig will traverse a number of Orbison's well-known hits, including 'Pretty Woman', 'Crying' and 'Blue Angel'.
"When he rose to fame in the early 1960's, Orbison dared to break free from the confines of a single genre to incorporate a host of different styles," he said.
"He had the mentality of a rock and roller, but with an operatic voice that earned him the nickname 'The Caruso of Rock', in reference to the famous Italian tenor of the same name.
Stephan's show, entitled You Got It! - A Salute to Roy Orbison, has the distinction of being endorsed by Orbison's eldest surviving son, Wesley.
"Through Wesley, I got to learn so much about Roy, and felt his contributions to music needed to be preserved in a live format," he said.
"He was respected by the best of the music industry and for a man who had to deal with significant hardship and tragedy, he still managed to produce such monumental songs that are proven timeless classics."
The gig will get under way from 8pm. For tickets, visit www.bmec.com.au.
