AFTER St Pat's blew a strong lead to finish with a draw against Dubbo CYMS last Saturday, Tyson Medlyn wants to see an improved kicking game from his team heading into round three of the Western under 21s competition.
St Pat's had lead 18-4 at one stage in last weekend's match, before CYMS were able to equalise in the dying moments to salvage a point in an 18-all draw.
This Saturday, St Pat's go up against fellow Dubbo outfit Macquarie Raiders, a team that has won both of its matches and Medlyn wants to make sure his team gets to its kicks in Saturday's match.
"We were up 18-4 and we looked at some of the reasons why it got back to 18-all. It was us not getting to our kicks," he admitted.
"We had a time when we kicked it out on the full after our set and then there was a drop-out and we kicked it out on the full. And then there were times when our halfback got tackled with the ball.
"Two or three of those things can change the game and the momentum. We looked at the that and by training Tuesday and Thursday, we fixed that up."
Medlyn is cautious of the threat the table-topping Macquarie team poses, but is confident that his team has what it takes to win.
"If you're sitting on top after two games, you've done something right," he said.
"You've got to respect that they are on top and it's not easy to sit on top of a ladder that's full of some good young teams and players. Anyone can beat anyone, no matter who you are.
"I'm pretty confident that the boys can do the job, it's just depending on how they turn up on Saturday and what mood they're in. That's up to me to get them in that winning mood."
Saturday's match between St Pat's and Macquarie gets underway from 5.30pm at Diggings Oval, CSU.
In other matches, Forbes will host a double header, with Woodbridge playing Dubbo CYMS at 4.45pm, followed by the local Magpies up against Orange CYMS at 6.15pm.
