COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the jog in 2020, breaking a run of more than 40 years as one of the region's biggest annual community events.
But committee member Jim Hallahan said the jog would return in 2021 with entry numbers to be strictly capped at 750.
And a new feature of the race will be the Lou Shehade Memorial Award to be presented to the fastest local male and female at the event each year.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
Mr Shehade was a former long-time general manager of the Western Advocate and one of the driving forces behind making the Edgell Jog a success.
Mr Shehade served on the jog's organising committee from its inception in 1976 right up to his death in May 2020.
Mr Hallahan said the committee had spent some time deciding how to properly honour Mr Shehade's contribution to the event.
"We had a lot of people disappointed the jog wasn't run last year and it was disappointing to break our run our run of more than 40 years," he said.
"But it will be back in September and there will be the Lou Shehade Memorial Awards for the first Bathurst female and male to finish.
"We think that's a great way to honour Lou's many years of service to Bathurst and the Edgell Jog."
Mr Hallahan said Edgell-Simplot would again be the event's major sponsor and a number of local businesses were also keen to be involved.
Apart from a cap on entry numbers, other changes will be in place to avoid large gatherings as part of the jog.
"Obviously there will be no overseas trip to be won this year and where we have always had the big draw at the end of the jog where people have had to wait around for an hour, we won't be doing that," Mr Hallahan said.
"Instead, everyone who finishes the jog will receive a lanyard and a badge."
There will again be big cash prizes for the fastest finishers, including $1000 for the first male and first female to finish the race.
Entries for the 2021 Bathurst Edgell Jog will open on Friday, March 19.
