Bathurst Towing has donated an old Nissan Pulsar to the group, who are stripping down the motor and getting it back to running order.
Automotive teacher, Phil Schmarr said the students were gifted the car thanks to a contact at the school who knew staff at Bathurst Towing.
He said the car broke down between Sydney and Bathurst, and the owner decided they had spent enough on it, and told Bathurst Towing to keep it.
Knowing the students could work on the car as part of their studies Bathurst Towing delivered the car to Kelso High and last week the students have started to work their magic.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
Mr Schmarr said the boys had already started to dismantle the engine and were loving the experience they were gaining.
He said normally the students only work on single cylinder engines like lawn mowers, and this was a great opportunity to expand their learning with a bigger engine.
Mr Schmarr said he normally has to scour junk yards and rubbish piles to find broken down lawn mowers for the students to work on, so having the car donated was fantastic.
"It was junk week in Orange last week and I scavenged across the city looking for mowers," he laughed.
"This is a great opportunity for the students."
With a contact in karting and access to a race car, Mr Schmarr said the ultimate goal is to get the students working up at the track at some point.
He said the students are really embracing their studies and the feedback about the course was fantastic.
He thanked Bathurst Towing for the donation and said the class aim to have the motor up and running again.
"And I think they're going to do it," he said.
Jake Whieldon, from Year 9, said working on a car engine was great.
