And this year Bathurst's Scots All Saints College marked the day by having the honour of welcoming Canadian Consul General André Franois Giroux to the school last Friday.
He addressed Middle School students to tell; them of the boundless opportunities created when you acquire the skills of different languages.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
"Having another language will open the world to you, in ways you cannot imagine," Mr Giroux said.
"You will have an advantage that others will not have."
Year 8 students were also treated to a performance of the spectacular and hysterical Tiguidou! by comedian and educator Sean Murphy.
This provided an exploration of French Canadian language and culture through the prism of interactive comedy.
Mr Murphy was educational, fun and thoroughly amusing, and the students were completely engaged.
