The community art project, which is run across the Central West, is designed to showcase creative works made from recycled and waste materials, encouraging artists and the audience to think about reducing, reusing and recycling waste.
Managing waste is a community-wide issue and the competition should challenge the way we view waste.
Waste 2 Art is a wonderful opportunity for entrants to showcase their artistic abilities and share creative ideas about waste re-use and reduction.
The exhibition was online last year, however, we are pleased to return to a physical exhibition this year which will be held at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre.
There are great prizes on offer and there is a category to suit all abilities.
Winning entries from the Bathurst exhibition will be entered into the regional exhibition hosted by Coonamble Shire Council.
Two workshops to inspire school-age entrants will be held at the Bathurst Library during the April school holiday period. Contact the library on 6333 6281 for more information and bookings.
Entries for the competition are open until May 5. Visit www.bathurst.nsw.gov.au for an entry form and details.

Restoration of Cathedral
I WOULD like to say congratulations to everyone involved with the restoration of the Cathedral of St Michael and John. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to inspect the completed works this week.

It's third time lucky for farmers recovering from the long drought
THE NSW Government's decision to waive Local Land Services (LLS) rates for 2021, as farmers across the region work towards drought recovery, is great news for the rural community.
Our farmers have been doing it tough over the past three years and while conditions have improved significantly, drought recovery does not happen overnight.
The NSW Government has stood side-by-side with our primary producers through years of devastating drought, and we remain committed to ensuring they bounce back stronger than ever.
LLS ratepayers can expect their notices to arrive in the coming weeks, informing them that their rates have been waived for 2021.
This is the third year in a row the NSW Government has been able to support primary producers by waiving LLS rates.
This is a $50 million investment across the state that will allow landholders to use the money they would have spent on rates elsewhere, but still access all the services offered by LLS.
LLS has a range of technical experts, specialising in areas like biosecurity and agricultural production, who are on-hand to help local landholders make better decisions about the land they manage.
After years of severe drought, these decisions can give our region's farmers a helping hand as they recover from drought, so I encourage them to reach out to their local team.
For more information about the services offered by LLS, or to find your closest office, visit www.lls.nsw.gov.au or call 1300 795 299.
Small business rebate scheme
A $1500 rebate scheme opening early next month will help small businesses pay for NSW and local government fees and charges, such as licences, council rates and registration fees.
The Small Business Fees and Charges Rebate, which was announced in November's budget, will provide support for eligible NSW small businesses, sole traders and non-profit organisations.
It's important that we help small businesses recover from the impact of the COVID pandemic and encourage business growth by reducing the cost of running a business.
Many licence fee waivers are about to expire and I encourage small businesses below the new 2020-21 payroll tax threshold of $1.2 million to apply for this new rebate scheme.
Under the scheme, small businesses, sole traders and non-profit organisations can apply to be reimbursed up to $1500 for NSW and local government fees and charges that are related to the cost of doing business.
These include Food Authority licences, liquor licences, tradesperson licences, event fees, council rates and business vehicle registration fees.
The rebates will be available via Service NSW in early April and will run until June 30, 2022.
More information, including the program guidelines, is available at www.service.nsw.gov.au/small-business-fees-and-charges-rebate
