While the long course field for the Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Club season-ending round was not the strongest or biggest given a bulk of the competitors opted to race in the short course events which had the Scott/Carroll Memorial trophies up for grabs, Miller's effort was still impressive.
He covered the 500 metres swim, 16 kilometre cycle, 5km run course in a time of 57:06.
"It was my best time in a couple of years so that was nice, a bit of improvement was good to see," he said.
"I've knocked about three minutes off my best time in the last sort of 12 or 18 months so I was pretty happy with it.
"I've been trying to get a bit more consistency and we had a very nice day today in terms of conditions, we had barely a breath of wind on the bike which was really nice."
Miller enjoyed a good battle with Gavin Borg over the first two legs of the 2020-21 finale. Borg was first out of the water and Miller caught him on the cycle leg.
Only a handful of seconds separated the pair as they headed out on the run, but Miller's 21:19 split ensured he took the honours.
"He sort of beat me out of the swim and then I chased him down on the bike, but then we sort of to and froed the whole bike ride and I just had to back I could out run him there," he said.
"It's a great way to finish the season and it was great to have so many people here."
Borg placed second in a time of 1:00.25, with Andrew Conroy third in 1:03.30.
In the women's long course event there was another maiden victor, Natasha Lindsay showing the benefits of her training program as she shaved four minutes off her personal best to win in a time of 1:10.57.
She beat home both Anna Blackie (1:18.18) and Barb Hill (1:19.02).
