The Transport Management Centre reported that eastbound traffic on the Great Western Highway was heavy from South Bowenfels, near Lithgow, to Blackheath at 4.30pm on Monday, adding at least one hour and 40 minutes travel time to the journey.
The Transport Management Centre reported westbound traffic from Katoomba to Blackheath was heavy enough on Good Friday afternoon that more than an hour's extra travel time needed to be factored in, though readers on the Western Advocate Facebook page reported delays of much longer.
The annual exodus from Sydney and return to the state capital has been complicated this year by the closure of a large section of Bells Line of Road due to landslides around Mount Tomah during last month's days of rain along the eastern seaboard.
The NSW Government has plans for a duplication of the Great Western Highway from Katoomba to Lithgow, but it is only in the early stages of planning.
The duplication will include a tunnel under Blackheath.
