Velvet Buzzsaw Gallery is the brainchild of Shea Peterson who, in addition to his passion for health foods, has a strong affinity for visual and creative arts.
Mr Peterson has launched the gallery with his own works, as well as works by local artists Sally Coppard and Jim Turner, and said he attends to branch out to further professional artists over the coming months.
"Jim's works showcase his passion for watercolours and expressionism, and will be the basis for our first art show later this month, while Sally's works are steeped in surrealism, with a particular focus on aquatic aliens," he said.
"My own works champion cubism, and I'm hoping to open discussions with local artists, as we intend to change exhibitions every seven weeks."
Mr Peterson said he's been wanting to open up a gallery space for quite some time, and considers Keppel Street the perfect location.
"With the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery [BRAG] and Dean Mobbs Gallery close by, as well as the community-driven t.Arts Gallery in George Street, I hope this space will provide a further avenue for artists to showcase their work," he said.
"The art scene in Bathurst is progressing really well, with so many artists producing stellar works, so we hope to attract some of these local artists with a clear vision and drive to express."
The gallery is situated at 59 Keppel Street [the former site of The Sunday Thistle], and is open from 10am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday.
"There will be the odd times where I have to duck out of the gallery for errands, but the opening hours are a consistent guide to ensure a wide range of the general public can view the exhibitions," Mr Peterson said.
"We also stock professional art supplies and new art books, and expect to announce further exhibitions in the coming weeks.
