Bathurst Regional Council was successful in its applications for funding for three projects, seeing it receive a combined $300,000 under round one of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

The biggest of the successful projects is the upgrade of the playground at Eglinton oval, which has already received $100,000 from the NSW Government.

The Federal Government will contribute a further $175,559 to help modernise the playground and make it safer for all users.

Construction on the playground has already commenced, and this injection of funds will ensure the area is given the best-possible facelift.

"Some of the features planned for the site include a giant all-abilities bucket swing, new seating and picnic areas, beautification works, shade, rubber soft-fall, mulched areas and new paths to connect the playground to the car park, and obviously new playground equipment, so they are extensive works," Member for Calare Andrew Gee said.

Mr Gee said the green space at the heart of Eglinton was well utilised, making it even more important to bring it up to scratch.

"I think it's a great community investment. We know that this area gets a lot of use for all sorts of events," he said.

"You can see we've got tennis here, football, we've got cricket and it does get a lot of use, so it's very popular, and it's important we keep making these investments in community infrastructure so the playgrounds are safe and our communities can keep offering an unbeatable way of life."

Mayor Bobby Bourke echoed his comments, noting the growth of Eglinton.

"It's so important for Eglinton to have the same facilities as we have in Bathurst and the surrounds," he said.

"You can see the improvements being done out here. There's new tennis courts and I think there's a new clubhouse to be built there sooner rather than later, and now we'll have new playground equipment here that's going to make it just as a good as any playground in our CBD.

"The contribution that both the state and federal governments have done helps council as we grow to provide these facilities, instead of having to wait years and years to do it."

Mr Gee said the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program is not only about helping councils to complete projects, but also about supporting employment in local communities.

The upgrade to the playground will create five full-time jobs during the construction phase.
