Compared to many Australians who pre-COVID were barely surviving on the JobSeeker payment, I finally understand what so many unemployed Australians experience daily.
My experience will pale in comparison as I am new to the JobSeeker journey.
Now experiencing this first-hand has shown me the dehumanisation that many Australians must experience on a daily basis when living on the JobSeeker payment that the Australian Government seems to feel is appropriate.
IN NEWS AROUND BATHURST:
My journey began at the beginning of COVID-19 and though it was devastating to find myself unemployed, I found that the JobSeeker payment at the COVID level allowed me to still pay my rent, gas, electricity, fuel for the car, groceries and medication, though nothing extra.
With the basics of living met, I applied for a TAFE course to retrain for new employment.
Now I find with the lower payment I can no longer put fuel in the car to get to TAFE and job interviews.
I can just make my rent, though am struggling with paying gas, electricity, groceries and medication.
How do those with family responsibilities cope day to day? Their journey is way more devastating.
Morrison government please, please help them live in decency.
