Small business and not-for-profits across the Central West are now able to apply for rebates of up to $1,500 as part of a new government scheme aimed to offset NSW and local government fees.

The NSW Government's Small Business Fees and Charges Rebate scheme was launched on April 1 and is aimed at small businesses, not-for-profits and non-employing sole traders as further support their post-pandemic recovery.
Eligible businesses must have wages bills below the $1.2 million payroll tax threshold and must be able to provide a turnover declaration showing at least $75,000 a year.

Charges that are able to be offset with the scheme include, but aren't limited to, council rates, event fees and liquor, food authority and tradesperson licences, which are due and paid from March 1 onward.
Only $1,500 is allowed per ABN, however multiple can be made until the full value is reached.

"Our November Budget committed nearly $500 million to this rebate, which will leave more money in the pockets of eligible small businesses, sole traders and non-profit organisations," NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said.
"Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and supporting them equals supporting jobs. I encourage all eligible operators to register for the $1,500 credit with Service NSW."

Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope echoed the treasurer's sentiments, labelling small business the 'backbone' of communities.
"It's so important that we continue to support the small businesses of NSW. Small businesses are the backbone of their communities and we want to make it easier for them to run a business and get ahead," he said.

Exclusions include fines or penalties a business may have been handed along with any fees and charges aimed at 'discouraging behaviours or inducing behaviour changes', rent charged on government premises, taxes and charges from the Commonwealth Government.
