The library has joined the Sustainability Program, an initiative developed and provided by James Bennett, one of the largest book suppliers in Australia.
The program will support the Bathurst Library to become more sustainable by assisting with the recycling and redeployment of books no longer considered useful to the collection.

Withdrawn library books will be packed by staff into used boxes and then James Bennett will collect the items and responsibly dispose of the books through donations to communities in need, as well as recycling into new products by pulping once the laminate has been removed.
James Bennett will then in turn sell items using online marketplaces such as eBay or Amazon, with the sale of these items generating funds that are donated on the Bathurst Library's behalf to The Indigenous Literacy Foundation charity.
Bathurst Library will continue to support local institutions with donations of used items.
This project does not affect the quality or quantity of books available at the library book sale, which are held on the first Friday, Saturday to Sunday each month.
