WHEN I was 16 and digging in my father's backyard in Sydney, we found an old World War One medal.

It was placed in the drawer and forgotten about.
Sadly, my father passed away, as did his partner recently, and in the clean-up, I rediscovered the medal.
I look after our family history, so it was easy for me to research about the owner and maybe search for a descendant.
OTHER RECENT LETTERS:
I found the medal recipient to be Ernst Alfred Churchill, born at Rockley in 1894, and who served with the AIF in World War One.
I have found his online World War One records and pieced together his life into a short timeline document as found in public record documents.
The coincidence is that, in the 1950s, he lived four doors down from where the medal was found.
The medal has now been restored and recently I have also found a Bathurst area descendant. I have contacted her asking if I may return the boxed medal to her.
Little is known of Ernst and I am searching for a photo of him to complement the life document.
If a reader could help, I'm sure that the descendants would be most grateful. Hoping to hear from you.
