The creations from each workshop will be used in Fast Cars and Dirty Beats: a creative project using large-scale puppetry, physical theatre and cabaret to tell the story of Wahluu- Mount Panorama and its many dimensions of significance to the Bathurst community.
Tremain's Mill will host the first two workshops this weekend from 11am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday, with further workshops to take place at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre [BMEC] on June 5 and 6, July 31 and August 1.
Fast Cars and Dirty Beats writer/director Kate Smith said the workshops will encourage participants to creatively express their own interpretations of the Mount's significance.
"The Mount means something to everyone, whether you're a race fan, visit for cultural purposes, learn to drive or share your first kiss," Dr Smith said.
"This project is seeking to explore different stories about the Mount and what it means to the community beyond that fantastic car race once a year."
Dr Smith is working alongside a multi-disciplinary team of professional artists, including BMEC Local Stages' Kylie Shead, First Nations curator Aleshia Lonsdale, sculptor Harrie Fasher, digital media artist Nicole Welch, physical theatre practitioner Adam Deusien, composer Tim Hansen and musician Rob Shannon.
The project has received immense funding and support from BMEC, Bathurst Regional Art Gallery and Arts OutWest.
